"Ginoo, Indi Ako Takos Nga Magpasulod Sa Imo, Maghambal Ka Lang Kag Magaayo Ang Akon Suluguon"

Ebanghelyo subong nga Adlaw (Mateo 8:5-17)

Karon, sang nagapasulod si Jesus sa banwa sang Capernaum, ginsugata siya sang isa ka kapitan sang mga soldado nga Romanhon. Nagpakitluoy siya nga nagasiling, "Ginoo, ang akon suluguon nagamasakit didto sa balay. Indi na siya makahulag kag puwerte gid ang iya pag-antos."

Nagsiling si Jesus sa iya, "Sige, kadtuan ko siya kag ayuhon."

Pero nagsabat ang kapitan, "Ginoo, indi ako takos nga magpasulod sa imo sa akon balay. Maghambal ka lang kag magaayo ang akon suluguon.

Nahibaluan ko ini tungod kay ako sa idalom man sang mga opisyal, kag may mga soldado man sa idalom ko. Gani kon magmando ako sa isa 'lakat,' nagalakat siya, kag kon magmando ako sa isa, 'kadto diri,' nagakadto siya. Kag kon ano ang akon ginasugo sa akon ulipon, ginahimo niya."

Pagkabati sadto ni Jesus natingala gid siya. Kag nagsiling siya sa mga tawo nga nagasunod sa iya, "Wala pa gid ako nakakita sang tawo sa Israel nga may pagtuo nga pareho sini.

Gani tandai ninyo ini! Madamo nga mga indi Judio halin sa bisan diin nga bahin sang kalibutan ang magapungko upod kay Abraham, Isaac, kag Jacob sa punsyon sa paghari sang Dios.

Pero madamo nga mga Israelinhon nga amo kuntani ang masakop sa paghari sang Dios ang ipilak sa guwa, didto sa kadudulman nga sa diin magahinibi sila kag magabagrot ang ila mga ngipon."

Nagsiling si Jesus sa kapitan, "Pauli ka, matabo ang imo ginatuohan." Kag sa sadto gid nga tion nag-ayo ang suluguon sang kapitan.

Nagkadto si Jesus sa balay ni Pedro. Pag-abot niya didto, nakita niya ang ugangan ni Pedro nga babayi nga nagahigda nga may hilanat.

Gintandog ni Jesus ang iya kamot, kag sa gilayon nag-ayo siya. Nagbangon siya kag nagpreparar sang pagkaon para sa ila ni Jesus.

Sang sirom na, madamo nga mga tawo nga may malaot nga espiritu ang gindala kay Jesus. Sa isa lang niya ka paghambal naghalalin ang malaot nga mga espiritu, kag ang tanan nga mga masakiton ginpang-ayo niya.

Ginhimo niya ini agod matuman ang ginsiling ni propeta Isaias, "Siya gid ang nagkuha sang aton mga masakit, kag nag-ayo sang aton mga balatian."

What kind of faith and trust does the Lord Jesus want you to place in him? In Jesus’ time the Jews hated the Romans because they represented everything the Jews stood against – including pagan beliefs and idol worship, immoral practices such as abortion and infanticide, and the suppression of the Israelites' claim to be a holy nation governed solely by God's law. It must have been a remarkable sight for the Jewish residents of Capernaum to see Jesus conversing with an officer of the Roman army. Why did Jesus not only warmly receive a Roman centurion but praise him as a model of faith and confidence in God? In the Roman world the position of centurion was very important. He was an officer in charge of a hundred soldiers. In a certain sense, he was the backbone of the Roman army, the cement which held the army together. Polybius, an ancient write, describes what a centurion should be: "They must not be so much venturesome seekers after danger as men who can command, steady in action, and reliable; they ought not to be over-anxious to rush into the fight, but when hard pressed, they must be ready to hold their ground, and die at their posts."

The centurion who approached Jesus was not only courageous, but faith-filled as well. He risked the ridicule of his cronies by seeking help from an itinerant preacher from Galilee, and well as mockery from the Jews. Nonetheless, he approached Jesus with confidence and humility. He was an extraordinary man because he loved his slave. In the Roman world slaves were treated like animals rather than people. The centurion was also an extraordinary man of faith. He wanted Jesus to heal his beloved slave. Jesus commends him for his faith and immediately grants him his request. Are you willing to suffer ridicule in the practice of your faith? And when you need help, do you approach the Lord Jesus with expectant faith?

“Heavenly Father, you sent us your Son Jesus that we might be freed from the tyranny of sin and death. Increase my faith in the power of your saving word and give me freedom to love and serve others with generosity and mercy as you have loved me.”
